(KPTV/Gray News) — A 10-year-old girl who was taken from her apartment early Wednesday was found that afternoon and a suspect was arrested, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. The U.S. Marshals Service said tactical teams rescued the girl from a home in Oregon City, Oregon. She was found “tied up in a closet” and taken to the hospital. Vince Edgar Chavez tried to run away out of the back of the house, but was arrested, according to the U.S. Marshals. Investigators said a man went into an apartment at 1:39 a.m., hurt a 12-year-old child and took the 10-year-old. The 12-year-old was rushed to the hospital and was still being treated as of Wednesday afternoon. Police said the parents are cooperating with the investigation. The community asked why an Amber Alert was not issued when the girl was taken from her apartment, and the Canby Police Department said it had not gathered the information required for an alert. Carus Elementary, where the girl is a student, had increased police presence during Wednesday’s afternoon dismissal “out of an abundance of caution.” “Our hearts are with this child and her family,” the school district said. “Please know that we are here to support our students, staff and families in whatever ways we can.”Copyright 2026 KPTV via Gray Local Media, Inc.
